Import tenants from Excel or CSV into BoardHub
Move your tenant list from Excel or Google Sheets into BoardHub in one go. Download the template, upload your .xlsx or .csv file, match columns and import.

Already keep your boarders in a spreadsheet? Import them all at once instead of typing each one. BoardHub checks every row before anything is saved.
Before you start
Add your properties and rooms first. BoardHub matches each row's boarding_house_name and room_number to the rooms you've already set up.
Step by step
- Open Tenants and tap Import.
- Optional: tap Template to download a sample CSV with all the columns, and paste your list into it.
- Under 2. Upload your file, tap Choose file and pick your .csv or .xlsx file.
- Under 3. Match your columns, check that each BoardHub field points to the right column in your file. Only full_name is required. Set anything you don't have to Skip (leave empty).
- Review the row list. Each row shows Ready, a duplicate note, or an error.
- Tap the Import button (it shows how many tenants will be added).

What happens next
BoardHub tells you how many tenants were imported and how many duplicates were skipped. The new tenants appear in your list, and room bed counts are refreshed the next time you open Rooms.
Tips
- Write dates as YYYY-MM-DD, for example 2024-01-01 for the move-in date or birthdate.
- If a room number in your file doesn't match one of your rooms, the tenant still imports. Edit them afterwards to pick the right room.
- You can also bring in money columns: payment_term, advance_months, deposit_months, advance_amount and deposit_amount.
- Imports count toward your plan. On Free, rows beyond the 15-tenant limit can make the import fail, so trim the file or upgrade first.
Tip: The same Import tool works for old bills and payments. Find it under Generate bills on the Bills page, or the ... menu on the Payments page.
Frequently asked questions
What file types can I upload?
CSV (.csv) and Excel (.xlsx or .xls). From Google Sheets, use File, Download, then CSV or Excel.
Will importing twice create duplicates?
No. Rows matching a tenant you already have (same email, or same name and phone) are marked as duplicates and skipped.
