How to add a tenant in BoardHub
Add a new tenant or boarder in BoardHub with their name, room, move-in date and contact details, plus optional advance, deposit and portal access.
Last updated
Adding a tenant puts them in a room, starts their billing and, if you like, gives them their own portal login. Only three things are required.
Before you start
Make sure the tenant's room already exists on the Rooms page.
Step by step
- Open Tenants and tap Add Tenant.
- Type the tenant's Full Name. Tap the camera icon to add a photo if you like.
- Add their Email and Phone. The email is needed for the Tenant Portal.
- Choose the Boarding House, then pick the Room. The list shows each room's rent and how full it is.
- Set the Move-in Date and keep Status on Active.
- Optional: open Money setup for advance, deposit and billing cycle, and More details for birthdate, emergency contact, guardian and notes.
- Optional: type a Portal Password so they can sign in to the Tenant Portal.
- Tap Add Tenant.

What happens next
The tenant appears in All Tenants and their room's bed count goes up by one. If they have an email, BoardHub can send them a welcome message with a link to the Tenant Portal. Their rent is included the next time you generate bills.
Tips
- The move-in date matters: the day of the month becomes their rent due day on generated bills.
- Adding someone who hasn't moved in yet? Set Status to Reserved. They won't be billed until you set them to Active.
- Tap a tenant's name any time to open their profile with bills, payments and quick actions.
Tip: Have a long list already in Excel? Use Import on the Tenants page instead of adding people one by one.
